Meet The Neighbours Part 6 – Normans v Welsh

Henry’s expeditionary force is faced with a South Welsh army on a battlefield filled with bad going. Normans are deployed on the right of the picture, Welsh on the left. [Click on any of the pictures below to go to a full-size image]:

The Welsh NPG opts to hold his left flank and his centre, and aggressively advance his right:

The view from the Norman side of the battlefield (note that Henry has chosen a mainly infantry force):

Welsh Warband sneak through the woods and crash into the Norman Blades:

The dismounted knights force the Welsh back, while archers from both sides close in:

The lines clash, with the Welsh now at a disadvantage (note – trees removed temporarily!):

Disaster for the Welsh as they lose an element of Bow and an element of Warband:

Henry’s men close in on the remaining Welsh warband, which is now isolated:

And finish them off:

Henry advances against the Welsh left, which the opposing general rushes to reinforce:

An archery duel ensues, with the Normans taking out a unit of Welsh bows:

It’s an easy victory for Henry as the Welsh flee the field. He adds a hundred gold pieces to his coffers without loss, taking his total by the end of campaign turn eight to 450 gold pieces in all:

  1. Unless it’s just me, you might want to shrink those pictures a bit – they’re overlapping the sidebar and beyond 🙂

  2. Thanks Alan, I’d better do that. Mind you, they look fine on my screen. And to think some people claim that size doesn’t matter! 😮

  4. The NPG flank attack was an outside chance on a percentage roll…which just happened to come up. I daresay it would have looked stunning if it had worked…!

  5. Any changes to the solo rules mechanisms? If so, you know where to post them!

    • Hi Dale, same approach as before, “fuzzy” as ever… Didn’t work out too well for the Welsh though so I’m still thinking about mechanisms, and will post on the SoloDBA group if I come up with anything concrete! Cheers, Jay.
