HoTT Avalon 2011

The HoTT (Hordes of the Things) community are a friendly and laid-back bunch, and HoTT tournaments tend to be relaxed affairs. So when Tony H organised one “just up the road” from me in Glastonbury this weekend just past, how could I resist? A bit of a break from my (mostly) solo wargaming, but all the more refreshing for that.

Day One was a standard four game compy with everyone fielding 24 point armies. I took along my Sith (a.k.a. Trooping Fairies), consisting of a Hero, a Magician, a Paladin, four Blades (including the general) and two Shooters. I surprised myself by scoring three straight wins before the Dice Gods finally deserted me, and ended up in third place overall.

Day Two was given over to 48 point doubles games. I thought I was onto a good thing when Tony H paired up with me for these (he’s a rather fine HoTT player), but apart from a single draw we got well and truly stuffed! It was fun though, and I nearly salvaged an unlikely draw in the final game when my Hero General desorcelled himself just in time to attack the enemy stronghold – it was a close thing but not quite good enough to get the result.

So, a weekend of good company and entertaining games in a lovely setting. It’s due to run again at the same time next year, and I can highly recommend it. Here are some pictures of the event:
